What do the teen parents think of the center?

Lisette (2009 High School Graduate): Thank you so much for supporting us teen moms. We don't know what we would do without you. Thanks for being kind and patient with my daughter and the other children. I can't thank you enough for keeping my little pumpkin safe. Thank you, Tammy, for being such a kind and giving person and thank you for helping me give my daughter a good future!

Gaby (2007 High School Graduate):  This is a very special thank you to all the staff members that make up MIS Daycare. I am very grateful that I was able to accomplish my high school education after having my son in 2005. If it weren't for this day care I honestly have to say there would be no way that I would have graduated with my class. I appreciate all the help I got from you guys, it really means a lot to me. Thank God there really is a place out there that is meant to help us out and really to help take us a step further in life. I think you guys are not thanked enough or even appreciated as much as you should be. I thank you from the bottom of my heart ladies. Not to mention my son grew attached to all of you. I really enjoyed having him watched by this day care and not only that but I felt the sense of my son being safe because he was always in good hands with all of you. Thank you very much for everything Moms In School Daycare.

Goal

Our goal was to help the youth of our local area. Moms In School was a state-licensed and subsidized childcare center for teen parents. From fall of 1992 through spring of 2011 we offered an enriched childcare environment for children of students at any area high school. We believed that an investment in the education of the parents is an investment in the future well-being of the child. Education and the desire to learn trickle down to the entire family. We provided a caring and nurturing environment for babies and toddlers, ages 6 weeks to 3 years.

What is the center history and success?

Established in 1992, the effort was led by DuPage County Special Education Nurse at West Chicago Community High School Arlynn Grimm working with several churches in the area. From 1992 through 2011, over 175 parents have utilized the center at least for some of their high school time. about 100 mothers graduated high school and about 40 went on to college.

Since 2000 we have about a 75% graduation rate for parents.  Our best benchmarking indicates about 40% of teen parents typically graduate.

We are extremely proud of what we accomplished before we ended this mission June 2011.
