Our Ministries

We welcome you to our church!  Please explore the many opportunities we offer to love God, follow Jesus and serve others.  In addition to worship, we offer many programs and volunteer opportunities.  Here are details about just a few:

Bible Studies
Two Bible studies are offered weekly.  Adult Bible Study meets before church on Sunday.  A Women's Bible Study meets on Wednesday afternoons.  Other Bible studies are offered at different seasons of the year.  We explore the Word of God from different perspectives to see how God speaks to us and how His Word pertains to our lives today.  We look forward to seeing you.
Chancel Choir
Adults and high school students who love singing perform moving anthems in church.  Our award-winning Choir Director leads the Chancel Choir in practices Wednesday evenings at 7:30p.m.  If you love to praise God through singing, please join us.
Moms in School
Our goal is to help the youth of our local area.  Moms In School is a state-licensed and subsidized childcare center for teen parents.  We offer an enriched childcare environment for children of students at any area high school.  We believe that an investment in the education of the parents is an investment in the future well-being of the child.  Education and the desire to learn trickle down to the entire family.  We want to provide a caring and nurturing environment for babies and toddlers, ages 6 weeks to 3 years.

We are located in the First United Methodist and First Congregational Church at 643 E. Washington Street in West Chicago, IL 60185. The center is open 6:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on school days.

PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter)
Our church is a PADS shelter for the homeless on Thursday evenings during the months of October through May.  Volunteers from our church and throughout the community provide people with a warm meal, a safe place to sleep, breakfast and a bag lunch.

United Methodist and Congregational Men
The men of the church community gather monthly for breakfast and fellowship.
United Methodist and Congregational Women
The women of the church community gather monthly to plan and participate in mission projects for the church.  These mission projects are open to the entire congregation.

Our fundraising activities include serving lunch to the West Chicago Lions Club twice each month, an annual rummage sale, a pecan pie sale at Easter, an annual holiday bazaar and luncheon and a dinner planned around a special theme such as a luau or renaissance dinner.

Our direct mission projects include: assembling health kits that are distributed to victims of disasters such as earthquakes or hurricanes; collection of new hats, mittens and gloves for local school children in need; and providing holiday gifts and/or food for residents of DuPage Convalescent Center and local families in need.

Joining this group of committed women is a unique opportunity to move in harmony with other women who have been responding to God’s grace for over one hundred years.  No matter who you are or where you are in your life at this moment, we hope you will join us.  If you are interested in joining, please feel free to contact Roberta Kent at robertakent@sbcglobal.net.
Youth Baking Ministry
The last Saturday of each month the youth bake and share conversation and games.  The baked goods are distributed to visitors and members with an appropriate prayer - of friendship, comfort, healing, etc.
